While it is perfectly acceptable to feed a kitten both dry and canned foods, in order for your kitten to obtain the proper nutrition while eating canned foods the consumption of the complete food is necessary. Canned cat foods consisting of chunks (solids) and sauces are usually considered complete and balanced nutrition when consumed in their entirety. Unfortunately, the sauce or gravy portion of the product is mainly water and flavors and thus contains only small amounts of nutrition. Consumption of the chunk portion of the product is very important for your kitten to get the nutrients he needs. Although this is rare there are some cats that will lick up the gravy and not consume the chunks. In cases like these cat owners are forced to only offer the loaf or pate type canned foods. These canned foods usually come in a variety of flavors that you should have no issues finding a flavor your cat enjoys.
