Kittens are natural climbers and explorers and some kittens just love to get up onto high places. Since they are small and their jumping ability is still developing they may use their claws to scale curtains and furniture. Supervision is essential to gently teach the kitten that this is not wanted behavior in the human household. It is also vital that they be provided with appropriate climbing, hiding and play opportunities with climbing towers and suitable toys. When the kitten cannot be supervised, they should be placed in their “safe” room where they will not damage household possessions. As they get older they will learn how to leave things alone and just play with their own toys if they are adequately provided for them.
