Storing canned food in a hot car for short periods of time should not have negative effects on the quality of the food. The temperatures that can be reached in a hot car are well below the temperatures used to process the food. The canned cat food may be slightly softer after being heated in a hot car. This may change the texture and image of the food which may affect the intake of the food, but it will not affect the quality of the food, it will still be safe to eat. It might be recommended to store the canned food in the trunk of the car. This will prevent direct sunlight exposure to the cans and possibly reduce the temperature that the canned food experiences.
