I adopted Oshi from Operation Kindness Dallas. Oshi is not a cat that likes to be held or climbs all over you, but he is a cool cat who happens to be the size of a small dog with over 12 pounds of muscle. He lies close to you at your feet but is never all over you.
A few years later, I was having frequent asthma attacks and difficulty breathing from time to time, and was preparing for surgery in a month. My mother had come to visit and I told her about how weird my cat, Oshi, was acting in the last few months. He was doing things he never did before, and it was really bothering me because I didn’t understand.
One night while I lay asleep, my mother witnessed what made my cat act so strangely. My mother heard me stop breathing and while she was scared by what was going on, before she could move to get to me, my cat Oshi ran at full speed from across the room and jumped on me and stood on my chest. His weight on my chest made me gasp and take a deep breath. I woke up asking the cat why he was on me, and told him to get down because he is so heavy. My mother then told me why he was on me, and that she had never seen anything like it before.
The doctor confirmed I had severe sleep apnea, and it was my cat that was saving me. Every time I stopped breathing he stood on my chest and made me breath. I no longer have sleep apnea and Oshi no longer stands on my chest while I’m sleeping, he stopped as quickly as he started. My cat saved me many times over!
