A recent study examined 25 cats with over-grooming disorders to determine how many were behavioral and how many were related to allergies, skin parasites or other medical disorders. The results indicated the food and other allergies are often the culprit when cats over-groom. A discussion with your veterinarian on how to obtain a more definitive diagnosis of the hair loss should include mention of a dietary trial. However, keep in mind that it might take three months after a dietary change to see any hair re-growth.
