Cat Chow is an excellent product, and would be appropriate for both your male and female cats. As lower urinary tract problems have a wide variety of causes, we would not expect that feeding this product would place your cat at any greater risk of developing lower urinary tract problems.
Feline lower urinary tract diseases can have many causes including bacterial or viral infections, stress, and physical or anatomical abnormalities. While there is no evidence indicating that commercially prepared diets cause lower urinary tract disease, the most recent evidence suggests that some specific types of urinary tract disease may be helped by specially formulated diets that allow the cat’s urine to be slightly acidic. However, the majority of cats do not require this special type of diet.
If you have a cat that had or currently has a urinary tract health problem and is under the care of a veterinarian, be sure to discuss any changes in diet with him/her. Urinary tract problems have many causes, and no cat food alone can prevent them. That is why it is important to see your veterinarian regularly as a part of a total health maintenance program.
