Cats reach social maturity between two-to-four years of age. So Snowball’s personality may be evolving somewhat. That coupled with the springtime, which coincides with feline mating season, could have her on edge. Even though she’s spayed (she is, right?) there may be outdoor cats romancing each other, stomping on her lawn or spraying urine where she can scent it, and getting her all upset.
You’ll need to become very sensitive to her moods. Watch her ears and fur elevation for clues before attempting to touch or pet her. In particular, give her time to fully wake up and solicit attention before petting. If need be, shut the door so that she no longer comes into your bedroom or sleeps with you, to avoid such surprises in the future. She may calm down once the spring passes–or you may simply learn to read these new signs more easily. Good luck!
