I’m delighted that you’ve been reunited with your missing cat! It’s hard to know what experiences he faced during his month-long absence, and these experiences could indeed have impacted his personality. It will take time for him to become comfortable once again in your home. Cats often act differently when they feel uncertain and are in unfamiliar surroundings, and at the moment, your home is not yet a “safe place” for the cat. I can’t predict if he’ll return to his old ways or not. Some of the changes may be permanent and in fact might have occurred simply with maturity, even if he’d never been lost.
The other issue, of course, is that the kitty you now may have simply ‘looked’ like the cat you lost but is a different animal altogether. That could account for the difference in meow sounds and behavior changes. I hope that you’re correct that this is your prodigal cat returned, but without a microchip or other fail-safe distinguishing identification, sometimes it’s difficult to know for sure.
