While this behavior is a bit unusual, it is not all that uncommon. In some cases the pet feels it is necessary to “bury” the food and water. This is more likely in homes with multiple cats but can happen with solo cats as well. It may help to have several food and water dishes in different areas to make the kitten feel more comfortable with her access to food.
