An older cat that shows a sudden change in behavior may have a medical problem. A study revealed that up to 90% of elderly cats had arthritis in one or more of their joints. Therefore, pain may be an issue that leads to changes in behavior. While cats are very sensitive to medication and should NEVER have over the counter pain medications, there are prescription options that can make a cat more comfortable and should be discussed with your veterinarian.
