Cats and kittens will vary in personality from those that are very outgoing and friendly to those that are timid and shy. While early experiences may change these basic temperament predispositions, there may be some animals that remain shy their entire life. Interacting with them in a calm, quiet manner and using play and food rewards to help them relax may help them learn to be more comfortable around certain people. When a cat lives in a multiple cat home, this also can affect them if the social interactions with the other cats intimidate them as well.
