It is so easy to look back at your decision to let your cat go and then wonder if you did the right thing. From what you describe, it sounds like there was something serious going on with your cat - especially since he was not completely responding to treatment. I believe preventing suffering is extremely important, and to base your decision on that was in his best interest. As a veterinarian, I can tell you, most of us wont even begin to discuss euthanasia unless we really believe it is warranted. From your description, I believe your cat was likely very sick and was deteriorating quickly. I know putting him to sleep was very difficult but I hope you can take comfort in knowing he’s no longer suffering. We are thinking about you in your time of loss.
