It sounds like you will know more when the rest of the blood tests come back. When looking at a low white blood cell count, we then break it down to see exactly which types of white blood cells are low. This can tell us a lot about possible causes. Possible causes in general could be infection (bacterial or viral), inflammatory disease, cancer or bone marrow disease. In some cases, it could be lab error (for example a clot in the blood) and in some cases, a cat may just normally run slightly below normal.
