He’s trained you! The scratching has become the “on†switch for him getting attention. The only way to curb this scratching or the meowing at the door is to ignore it entirely (much easier said than done!).
I have two suggestions. Bring a cat tree/scratching post into the bedroom and set it next to the prime target. Spike it with catnip and encourage the cat to scratch that instead–and give LOTS of attention when he does so. Do this consistently so that his scratching on that object becomes the “on-switch†for attention.
Alternatively, lock him out of the bedroom. And invest in earplugs so you can ignore his crying. Warning–the crying will get worse before it finally goes extinct.
