Well congratulations on your new cat and good for you for adopting an older girl! If she is a drooler when she purrs, she may be swallowing a good amount of drool as well. This could account for her swallowing/neck position. If you’ve just adopted her as well, perhaps she has a mild upper respiratory infection (I believe cats can get sore throats just like us) and perhaps it is exacerbated when she is purring. I’d watch her when she eats and drinks, if you see any difficulty with that, I’d be more concerned. An x-ray would be the next step, and I’d be sure the x-ray includes her throat and chest. This may be normal for this cat but if you’re concerned or there are any other symptoms a follow up with your veterinarian is a good idea.
